Public Media Metadata Co-op

Permissions, Prohibitions, Obligations, Oh my!

SAME INFORMATION. NEW LABELS. MORE ORGANIZED.

Beginning in late June 2020, users of the PBS Member Workplace at mypbs.org will notice small alterations to the PBS Program Offer. These updates serve to align PBS Offers with the concepts and terms entailed in the PBS Metadata Model, connecting operational details with viewers' ability to find their favorite PBS shows and discover new PBS shows to watch. This downloadable interactive PDF and brief video tour will orient you to the changes.

The Metadata Co-Op Steering Committee has chosen to evolve the Enterprise Data Model to include a single vocabulary to interpret basic to complex policies from rights to membership agreements. There are a plethora of use cases across Public Media that benefit from sharing a metadata model so as to track permissions and constraints – whether on-air offers, rights, royalties and more.

To enable adoption of an industry-accepted standard, the OPEN DIGITAL RIGHTS LANGUAGE (ORDL) is the selected information model. ORDL opens the door to translating business semantics into “smart [automatable] contracts”.
